La Bolleur - Mini Golf

Damn, damn and damn again. We have talked endlessly in the workshop about making wooden portable crazy golf holes and never got around to it. And here you go, beaten to it! Very happy to be beaten to it by these guys though. Check out ALL of them - Brilliant Stuff!

The Selby

I am sure lots of you will know about The Selby already but some of you may not, and its well worth a nose. The idea is to simply to show images of artists, designers, musicians etc in their studios or working environment. A window into the world of creatives, and a new book bringing together the best bits is going to hit soon. The featured picture is of Vincent Darre's studio and store featuring Avante garde assemblages and furniture, "...this intimate space resembles a chapel of the absurd", (in the best possible way.)

My Beehive unit is currently showing in 'Reap and Sew' at the Oriel Myrddin Gallery.

Tim's Response

Very kindly got a reply from Tim regarding the last post..
"To answer some of your questions, the pieces in the Under The Fort series are very small, about 5"X5" and the New Ground piece is about 18" wide. I'm using a medium typically used for proposals for actual work and making it something that can become permanent work itself, it takes on completely different aesthetics in it's scale and I enjoy the ability to manipulate the perspective. Also many of the pieces represented in these series could not be built in the real world, questioning the notion of function altogether. There is another irony in imagining a proposal for a tree house or a child making a formal proposal for such a thing. I'm always interested in a way to get back to the time when I built work intuitively, albeit naive, this work is also one way for me to explore that."

Tim Lewis

I received some very kind words regarding the blog from Tim Lewis, a designer maker based in Pennsylvania who is showing work at Specific Merchandise. And i thought i should repay the goodness. Its a really good mix of highly technically accomplished furniture and lighting with some 'other work' which i find most interesting. Strange and alluring, are they architectural models? Are they ambiguous in their orienatation? How big are they? Please let me know more Tim!
(I am loving the acid green and the walnut combination too.)

EO1

I have been working on this extending coffee table for a while now. I like its personality, its curious but accessible,  the irregular shaped sections really play with the eye, making the table appear uneven. The middle section acts as a lift out tray, allowing the table to be 'closed' to make it smaller if needed. Legs will be American Black Walnut, top sections will be High Pressure Laminate with Birch Plywood detailing. Please click on images to enlarge.

Richard Wilson

I keep coming back to Richard Wilson's work, i find it hugely inspiring. His understanding and interpretation of space is at once, arresting, logical and serene. 20:50, his best known work, is staggeringly good, and has to be seen. What interests me most is that Wilson, in working with such scale, avoids all the obvious logistical questions of production. He challenges your perception of space in bizarre ways but the installations look so easy, natural, as if they are normal. Stunning!
